The Canopy Treehouses is the most luxurious base to experience the beautiful highland rainforest of the Atherton Tablelands. Only 90 minutes inland from Cairns, the area is renowned for its waterfalls and waterholes. The cool, fresh water surrounded by the lush biodiversity of the rainforest offers some of the most perfect swimming spots for anyone. With absolutely no crocodiles or stingers in sight!
The most amazing and beautiful waterfall of all is Millaa Millaa Falls. It is a spectacular 18-metre high plunge waterfall that was added to the Queensland Heritage Register in 2005. The waterhole at its base is suitable for any swimmers.
Be ready to take your souvenir photos! It is renowned as one of the most picturesque scenes in all of Far North Queensland. And if swimming’s not your thing, there is a relaxing picnic spot right in front of the waterfall giving you the best view. Or you can visit the Falls Teahouse just three minutes away for an after-swim snack or meal.
Millaa Millaa Falls is a place of importance for the Atherton Tablelands and Queensland as a whole. Its natural beauty and marvellous landscape is breathtaking and has surprisingly barely changed in the last 100 years. Its only 20 minutes from The Canopy, making it a must when you come and visit us.
Another incredible place you can visit is Lake Eacham! Only a twenty-minute drive north of the Canopy Treehouses, Lake Eacham is a very popular lake in the Atherton Tablelands region and is also on the Queensland Heritage List.
Lake Eacham was formed over 9,000 years ago after underground volcanic explosions caused huge cracks in the ground and created a crater. Eventually groundwater filled the crater creating the magnificent Lake Eacham.
Lake Eacham is surrounded by a dense rainforest with thousands of animals and has an average depth of thirty-eight metres with a maximum depth of sixty-five metres! Locals consider it the perfect spot for swimming, canoeing, bushwalking and birdwatching.
There’s a range of picnic facilities, a pontoon to dive into the deep water of the lake, and a large grassed area to sunbake and relax after your swim.
There is also a three-kilometre circuit walk around the lake. On this walk you will be surrounded by singing birds, incredible lush rainforest and animals like kangaroos, fish and even turtles! There is also a children’s walk that goes for 1.5 kilometres.
